WHAKATAUKĪ
“Ko te marae te tuapapa, e here i te whānau ki tona tuakiritanga”
The Marae is the foundation that binds the family to its identity
~Byron Toki Thompson
Our Whakataukī was made to as part of our Mokaraka Whānau Reunion.
We wanted something to represent us as a whanau, and express a deeper meaning of connection to our whānau reunion.
It was develped & created by Byron Toki Thompson, and below you will find the explanation, he whakamārama, in his own words.
“The Marae is the foundation & centre pillar that upholds the dignity, ancestry, and identity of its descendants.
It is the root of relationships, hospitality, and the preservation of ancestral customs, connections and traditions.”
The Hidden message within our whakatauakī is
“Family means everything”
